The Helen Foundation was launched in early 2006 as a living memorial to Helen Kirk, a Shaldon girl and a former Carnival Queen, who tragically died after a road accident on Boxing Day, 2005.
A registered charity, The Foundation supports the artistic aspirations of young people and their artistic experiences within Teignbridge. By providing The Helen Foundation Award in schools (which is presented to the young person who has shown “best endeavour in the arts”) and arts-based workshops led by professional artists, the Foundation encourages and supports young people to enjoy the arts as Helen was able to.
Various events take place throughout the year to raise funds and encourage sponsorship.
