Welcome to Shaldon, Devon
Welcome to the Shaldon Village, Devon, official website created by Shaldon Tourism, a voluntary group committed to supporting local businesses by promoting the villages of Shaldon and Ringmore and providing local and tourist information. The Shaldon Village website also hosts reports of the work carried out by Shaldon Parish Council which deals with civic matters in the village.
Shaldon is an idyllic little fishing village of quaint thatched cottages, period houses, contemporary homes and narrow winding streets situated at the mouth of the Teign estuary on the edge of the English Riviera and Torbay.
It lies adjacent to the older village of Ringmore and both enjoy a delightfully warm micro climate, sheltered from the sea by the Ness, the imposing red sandstone headland that has been a welcome landmark for centuries of sailors.
There is a good range of holiday accommodation available to suit all tastes, with hotels, guesthouses, b&b's, self catering both traditional and modern as well as holiday parks and campsites.
Shaldon has two beaches - sit on the river beach and watch the world go by, if you're lucky you may see a dolphin or two, or visit the award winning Ness beach by walking through the "Smugglers Tunnel". Stroll around the village and visit Shaldon Zoo and Homeyards Botanical Gardens. Relax in one of the many pubs, award winning cafes and restaurants.
Shaldon has a thriving local community so benefits from a good selection of local shops and services. Transport links are excellent with trains, buses and an historic black and white foot ferry that crosses the estuary daily between Teignmouth and Shaldon.
Shaldon enjoys a year round calendar of events including the famous Water Carnival and Regatta both in August, flower shows, fetes, art exhibitions,1785 craft fairs, an International Music festival in June, and a Fancy Dress 3 legged race on Boxing Day to name but a few!
There are plenty of leisure activities to enjoy - sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, rowing, golf, fishing, bowls, walking the South West coast path or the tidal Templer Way towards Dartmoor and exploring the RSPB nature reserve at Labrador Bay by the Ness.
Visit Shaldon Tourism Centre on the Ness car park, open from May to September where our enthusiastic volunteers are on hand to answer all queries.
