Children in Need
The pubs in Shaldon were filled with Sunday dinner patrons when James Langdell made his Pub Run for 'Children in Need' and raised over £700 - an amazing sum! He would like to thank the pubs, the Shaldon Newsagent and all those who contributed for their overwhelming generosity.
James was part of the very popular Water Carnival Boat Parade this summer where his boat float was made into a Robin Reliant and he was dressed as Delboy, which won him the Best Costume Award. To carry on the theme, James dressed himself as Batman and made the dash from his home in Ringmore to the Shipwright's Arms, Clifford Arms, Conservative Club, Ferryboat Inn and finally the London Inn. James chugged his usual tipple of a half pint of water at each pub before racing off. The Shipwright’s had the Batman TV theme blaring on their system when James arrived, adding to the atmosphere. The jam-packed Clifford Arms was in the middle of a special jazz afternoon. As James ran through their door, John Shillito’s Select 4 band followed suit and played the Batman theme.
The run was a big success due to James’ huge popularity within the villages of Shaldon & Ringmore where he often visits his friends in the pubs in evenings. James is an avid snooker player at the Conservative Club and a valued member of the Shaldon Lawn Bowling Club. A highlight of the Shaldon Regatta each year is the exhibition pillow fight between James and the previous year’s champion. Somehow he fits all these activities in while maintaining a job at Tesco’s.
